How Waminda is funded
The main source of financial support received by Waminda Services Limited is from the Queensland Government Department of Communities Disability Services and the Federal Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations. The organisation is committed to the principles of the Queensland Government’s Growing Stronger disability service philosophy and is working with the government and other stakeholders to ensure the people with a disability – both adults and children – living in south-west Queensland have access to excellent support and employment services. However, Waminda General Manager Stewart Mulligan points out that Government funding represents only 75 per cent of the total cost of running the organisation's programs. A number of fundraising activities help to 'top up' Waminda's income. As well, links with corporate and private sponsors are being forged to ensure vital income that will grow our service to keep pace with community disability needs. These funding streams will enable us to provide appropriate facilities and suitably qualified staff able to meet the needs arising from the rapid economic and population growth of the Surat Basin region.

The case for sponsorship Waminda is actively seeking corporate sponsorship that will complement government funding. However this does not mean looking for one-sided partnerships or corporate handouts, according to Waminda General Manager Stewart Mulligan. "The days are gone when not-for-profit companies should be seeking such one-sided arrangements”, he emphasised. Waminda seeks to promote organisations that provide support through sponsorship branding on Waminda stationery, media advertising and company vehicles – in fact these are just some ways that corporate sponsors could benefit from forming a partnership. “I invite companies who are considering sponsorship of Waminda to contact me (see left column) and discuss requirements and ideas”, he said. “We are always happy to hear about sponsorship suggestions.” |
