"Baby Bridges" delivers family support in Dalby
Families adjusting to life after learning their child has a disability can find support through the Baby Bridges program. This innovative program follows early intervention principals to promote a child's development, leading to better learning outcomes and enabling their future potential. It is available for children aged between birth and five years with any diagnosed disability at no cost to families. While the children receive therapy in a playgroup setting from qualified therapists, parents and carers receive training, information and support in a respite group. The program is delivered over six two-hour sessions during the 10 weeks of the school term, with the first program set to begin in term one. Waminda will deliver this Department of Communities funded program in partnership with the Brisbane-based Horizon Foundation. Waminda General Manager Stewart Mulligan is excited about the opportunity to deliver Baby Bridges. "Early intervention is critical if a child is to achieve its full potential" he said. "Baby Bridges brings this opportunity to Dalby families." Families can learn how to make better connections with therapists and access educational and government assistance while building formal and informal community supports as a result of attending this program.
