Waminda recycling
Waminda Recycling collects & processes cardboard, office paper and soft plastics from local business houses, as well as offering a confidential shredding service. Local businesses and individuals are able to drop off any acceptable recyclable material at our Hunter Street depot near Dalby railway station. This product is compacted into bales, transported and sold to either the Amcor or Visy processing plants near Brisbane. We have plans to expand the operation to include additional recyclable material such as glass and all metals. The team is also vying for the opportunity to operate recycling operations at the planned Western Downs Regional Council refuse transfer station. Should we win the contract, it will open up many more employment opportunities for our clients and hopefully bring the recycling operation into profitability, ensuring ongoing benefit to Waminda and its clients as well as to the wider community. |
 Clients are winners Our recycling business employs a co-ordinator and four other staff, three of whom are people with a disability - clients of Waminda. From time to time, volunteers also donate their time. Clients who are employed in the recycling operations gain many skills. Some get their tickets for operation of fork lifts and other plant and machinery. Developing these skills invariably bestows a great sense of pride and achievement. The ultimate goal is to prepare clients to obtain employment with other companies in the community as reliable and productive workers. |
